Suzi Mills is a certified tennis pro through the US Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), and teaches and coaches, mainly on the courts at Canyon Middle School in Castro Valley.  She created the concept for a Castro Valley Middle Schools Tennis Team (comprised of both Creekside and Canyon students) in 2004, and is in her 17th year as coach.  Suzi also directs the youth summer tennis camps for Castro Valley Junior Tennis.

Suzi’s B.A. and California Teaching Credential are in Physical Education from UC Berkeley, with a specialty in elementary education.  As a two sport athlete at Cal, Suzi was the president of the Women’s Athletic Association, a member of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, Alpha Phi Sorority, Prytanean, the Women’s “C” Society and Phi Delta Kappa, an honor society for educators.  She has served on the TeamCal Tennis Committee, a support program for the Cal Men’s and Women’s tennis teams.   Thirty year residents of Castro Valley, Suzi and her husband have two daughters (both CVHS grads); a UCSD graduate, and a UCI and Fordham Law school graduate, and member of the New York state and New Jersey state bars.

An Oakland native, Suzi previously coached at Head-Royce School (both the boys and girls high school tennis teams), and at Richmond High School, and taught tennis at Club Med Cancun, Mexico, and at Berkeley High School.  Following her success as a teacher and coach, Suzi pursued a career in the technical writing field.  After receiving her professional certificate in technical writing management, and working in the software and financial services industries, Suzi retired as an analyst and technical writer for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco.

In 2003, Suzi began teaching tennis once again, and created the tennis program at the Chabot Swim Club in Castro Valley.  In 2004, she began coaching the Castro Valley Middle Schools Tennis Team, and in 2006, she took over the summer tennis programs at Hidden Hills Tennis Club in Hayward.  In 2011, the Northern California section of the United States Tennis Association asked Suzi to create the Castro Valley Junior Tennis Team League, which is dedicated to teaching children to love team tennis.

Suzi serves as Commissioner of the Alameda County Junior Tennis League, as well as the Castro Valley Junior Tennis League.  As a CVUSD coach, she holds current certifications in USTA JTT and Officials SafeSport Training, Concussion Training, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training, Mandated Reporting, Megan’s Law, CPR and First Aid.
